The Application of Tai-Chi          太 極 的 運 用

Health

Cure chronic back pain which has caused by the stiffness of muscles, legiments and poor blood circulation.

Relaxation is another form of stretching, thinking about the spinal column, one section stack to another, when you relax your body, it acts like a T-shirt hanging on a coat hanger, each section realxes and stretches. As in result, the spinal column realigned to its natural curve and re-positioned the discs between the joints.

When all the muscles and joints are fully relaxed, the blood flow becomes better, the circulation refreshes the tissue and cause the problem to go away.

Resolve the constipation problem (See the topic -- Toilet Tai-Chi).

Fix cold hands, cold feet and short breath:

You improve the blood flow in the body. In Tai-Chi term, you improve the Chi in your body. The entire Tai-Chi is based on relaxation, all the muscles and joints relaxes, allow the blood to  circulate to the finest vessels, as a result, the hands and feet warm up. And due to the sustaining flow of motions, it brings up the calmness of mind, when combining both together, the gland in your brain triggers the endorphin, the endorphin brings up the joyful feelings and loosen up the blood vessels even more, making the circulation runs even smoother, eventually it relaxes the entire body and put the mind into a joyful state (mediation state).

Relax central nerve system, improve the function of all organs, circulation and digest system.

The secret of Tai-Chi lies in the slow motion, the body has it's own rythm, all organs move in its own pace, the heart, the lung, the kidneys, the intestines, they contract and expand in its own cycle. For example, if you go hiking or jogging, the best way to conserve the energy and build up the endurance is to cope the breathing with the foot pace, once the rythm is formed, it creates a unifomanity, I call it the loop, energy is circulated and repeated in the loop, very similar to an oscillator, or a traditional clock with the weight swinging back-and-forth, consuming the least amount of energy.

So, slow motion will catch up the rythm of the expantion and contraction of an organ, and enhances its function. We rarely hear people talking about exercise the internal organ, nor do we ever pay attention ourselves. It sounds like a difficult task to monitor its activities, but all we have to do is pay attention to it, feel the rythm while we are relaxing ourselves and moving along. Not only do we relax all the muscles and joints but also relax everything inside of the torso.

Improve body immunie system (Any right amount of exercise will do).

I would like to address this issue with the "right amount" and "balanced" exercise, either too much or not enough to get the circulation started, is in the category of "unbalanced". Finding a balance point to fit your own condition and adjust accordingly are essential.

Be your own doctor, watch yourself carefully, try for certain amount of exercise and observe its effect during the next few days. If you become really tired on the next day, or the muscle ache last more than 48 hours, it's an overdone. If you don't feel a thing on the next day, means you haven't done enough. You adjust the dose dynamically until it works the best for you. I encourage people to increase the valume slightly each day, start with fewer rounds and figures, then gradually move on. Remember the key to uptimize the immunie system is to exercise daily and applys the positive attitude towards everything comes upon you. In another word -- Be happy every day and find joy and love in every moment.

May cure chronic deseases (Any routine and consistent exercise would have this effect).

Slow down the aging process

The aging starts from losing the strength in legs, it's a vivid sign of going down hill in your health, and a sign of saying that you are getting old.

Tai-Chi Ch'uan has tremendous amount of lower limbs exercise, almost 90% of the forms rely on the lower body strength, especially in the upper legs, it strengthen the muscles, legiments and blood flow in the legs. When both legs become stronger, the heart becomes stronger, the full body circulation becomes greater, it directly affects the function of the body.

Master Leo Wong (王立佑)said -- "Legs are the second heart", it makes a lot of sense. The heart is like the engine in a car or in an airplane, a good engine means you have a lot of miles to go before the problem starts to trouble you.

Internal exercise for paralized people.

Unfortunately, the Tai-Chi has to be fully developed before the physical trama begins. For a normal person with the skill fully developed, try sit down on a chair or lie on a bed, move the tai-Chi forms with your mind and reamain motionless with your body, the same sensational feeling of Chi can be initiated. It's pretty encouraging to see the powerful effect of the mind. It has once proved the body and mind are tied together, like the Yin-and-Yang united into one.

Push-hand combat exercise.

The fun for Tai-Chi begins with Push-hands. see this video clip I found in Youtube, turn your form practice into an action with another guy, it uses the same techniques as opposed to the form practice. Push-hands open up the new era of Tai-Chi and bring more joy and fun in the progress.

The exercise requires very sensitive touch, light and gentle touch, uses the exactly same principles as you were told. You combine your energy with opponent and create a new balance when you move each time . You re-direct the energy and give it a new vector to avoid an impact, or deflect the energy and make the opponent loses his/her balance. It's an exercise with dynamic actions, relys on the completely sensitive feeling of touch, leverage, relaxation and balance.

Chin-Na (Bare hand wrestling).

Chin-Na is an agressive act during the combat, switch from defensive mode to offensive, you control the opponent by against his natural movement of joints and apply the opposite force to seize his or her activities.

Martial Art

Self defense

Tai-Chi was originally found as a martial art, not just a relaxation exercise, every figure in the forms has its unique application. It combines the leverage, deflection and circular motion in the real combat situation.

Fa-Jin (The explosive power)

Fa-Jin is based on the coordination and relaxation of all muscles and joints, it creates many times more powerful and concentrated energy than a normal punch. I say, 90% of the developing motions are in the relaxing state. The energy will be rotating on an axle in the body and accelerate as it moves along, it is exactly like a door moving on it's hinges. With two forces, one in the front (attacking) and one in the back (supporting), both are in a loop and moving in circular motion, and just right before it impacts the target, the energy turns into a straight line and delivered with the maximum efficiency.

One inch punch 吋勁 (The penetration of energy)

Very similar to Fa-Jin, instead, it focus more on the timing when the energy travels "into" the target, it's a very interesting effect when the energy reaches the surface of an impact point, it compresses the object and continue to travel inward, until the target has becoming a firmed and solid object, then the exposive engergy releases right at that moment, no sooner, no later, exactly at the right timing, as a result, it creates a deep impact and penetration.
